Welcome to the website of one of the liveliest bands around.
The band was formed in 1887 in Cricklade, the first town on the River Thames. The band is the oldest established, continuously active association in Cricklade. Today, it may also be one of the town’s busiest organisations.
In addition to Monday and Thursday rehearsals within the town, we provide music for all events and occasions - from concerts and incidental music, air shows and agricultural shows to religious services, ceremonial parades, authentic bierfest music, our dance party programme, carnival processions and family ‘milestones’ – a healthy number of engagements each year!
We are not a contesting band in the ‘Brassed Off’ sense, our 30-ish musicians prefer to concentrate on being an entertaining performance band. That’s not to say we don’t have high standards of music-making. Taking part in entertainment competitions has earned us high praise for our award-winning performances.
We also have two other parts to our organisation which have their own pages further on:
BandAcademy provides instruments and tuition in a friendly environment of equal opportunity to learners of all ages.
The band also has a support arm, known as ‘Crew’. In addition to fundraising and catering, this busy social group also provides a team who look after our equipment, transport and performance presentation in our livery of red, black, grey and white.
If you’d like to see us up close there’s a list of what we’re doing and when on the Engagements page. Alternatively, please come and chat to us at the The Club at Cricklade, Cricklade High Street, on Monday or Thursday evenings – you can have a drink and watch us rehearse or, if you’re thinking of joining us, sit in and play, we’re all very friendly!
Thank you for reading about The Cricklade Band, Paul and the band hope to see you soon.
